SOLUTION  Substitute with parentheses: 3x − 2(−x + 4) = 7. Distribute −2 across both terms: −2 times −x is +2x, and −2 times 4 is −8, giving 3x + 2x − 8 = 7. Combine: 5x − 8 = 7, so 5x = 15 and x = 3. Back-substitute: y = −(3) + 4 = 1. Solution (3, 1). Check in equation 2: 3(3) − 2(1) = 9 − 2 = 7. Correct.
